The VGEE has several data sets to help you explore and understand weather phenomena. Deciding which data set to use is an important part of interpreting what's happening in the atmosphere. For example, if you want to compare temperatures between a Normal year and an El Niño year, you should use the atmospheric data rather than the storm data set. The data sets for each topic are grouped together.
How to load data sets
There are two ways in which to load a data set and its variables.
Click on the folder icon with the L on it, located under File. (Insert
picture!) If you are working on Topics 1 or 6, double click on the
data file that you want. For topics 2 through 5, click on the Look In drop-down
box, select VGEE Data, double click on the folder Topic 2-5, and double
click on the desired data set.
In VGEE, select Data and then Select Data . If the data set that you want is not displayed, click on the Look In drop-down box, select VGEE Data, double click on the folder containing the desired topic, and double click on the desired data set.
How to load variables
Once you have selected the data set, double click on its heading in the
Visualization State box on the left side of the screen.
Double click on either 3D Grid or 2D Grid, or single click on their adjacent magnifying glasses. If the Select Display box comes up when you double click, click Cancel or X out.
