Answer each question carefully and write all answers clearly. Before you begin, take the back of the paper and use one vertical side to mark out distance measurements. Use the scale on the map. For quadrants, use the numbers across the top and letters down the side and provide the pair, such as 10 N. Also give the smaller number of the specific quadrant box. Familiarize yourself with the terms used on the map and in the questions.
1. Which creek has the most runoff? How did you figure this out?
2. What towns does St. Vrain Creek pass through?
3. Which ditches would most likely have the oldest rights to St. Vrain Creek water? Why?
4. Which ditches supply Burch Lake?
5. Approximately how long is the Community Ditch, including the western portion and northern fork?
6. What is Community Ditch's water source and what three "lakes" does it feed into?
7. In what quadrant is Panama Reservoir and what ditch passes right through this reservoir?
8. Find three laterals east or southeast of Boulder. Provide for each:
9. Logan Mill used tributaries that feed into what creek? What mountain is approximately 3 miles south of the Logan Mill site? What is its elevation and quadrant? What type of land does the mountain rest on and name the specific "place" in which it is located. (You may have to look up this place.)
10. Find Paragon Estates in Louisville. Give the quadrant. Where is the closest City of Boulder Open Space? Name the quadrant. What major street(s) would you take to get there?
11. Measure the length of Farmers Ditch. Use classroom resources to provide this ditch's CFS and water right number, year and water source.
12. How many aquaducts are found in the urban limits of Boulder. Which ditches are they part of and why were they most likely built?
13. If Flagstaff Mountain was to have water crossing over it due to heavy rain or snow melt, how many streams would be responsible for this? Give the types of streams and their locations. Hint: Keep in mind the terrain.
14. What natural water feature and/or ditch is closest to the school? Provide its quadrant numbers. In which basin are we located?
15. If you live in Erie and want to drive the most direct route to the base of Lefthand Canyon Drive, which roads should you take and how many ditches will you cross?
